Research theme(s)

My publications focus on the innovation process in the context of limited resources. They are mainly applied to the case of Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises. Studies on innovation have focused exclusively on developed countries. However, in developing countries, special attention is paid to the divergent conditions under which the innovation process takes place. In this sense, the difference to be noted is the contrasting access to resources. My research aims to contribute to a better understanding of innovation management in the context of limited resources in developing countries.

Starting from the vision of innovation management in developed countries, the aim is to transfer this knowledge to developing countries. However, my research focuses on specific topics in developing countries that are likely to enrich the vision of innovation management, such as do-it-yourself, social linkages and corruption. These are the factors that support the innovation process in developing countries.

Do-it-yourself occurs in the context of limited resources. « Do-it-yourself » is as a possible strategy for companies to overcome the lack of resources in the innovation process by using available resources, recombining resources for new purposes and scrambling to provide appropriate solutions. This work also highlights the role played by social relations (social capital), the capacity to adapt and absorb external sources of knowledge. The social capital embodied in social ties compensates for the limitations of the underdeveloped institutional context in developing countries. At the same time, social ties lead to increased exposure to corruption.

My research uses quantitative methodologies such as the Heckman or Tobit type 2 selection model, the Heckprobit model, Generalized Structural Equation Modeling (GSEM), the SURE method (seemingly unrelated regression equation) and multiple factor analysis methods. In addition, some of my publications also deal with financial, accounting and marketing aspects, and most of this work has used more qualitative techniques (e.g. interviews, especially of a semi-directive type).
